Give a brief description of your vision where you would like to be in the next five years as an instructor. What are the professional goals that would get you closer to your vision? Make sure your goals are SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and complete within the time frame.
During my time at BCIT, I had the opportunity to discuss my long-term career goals with my new manager. At that point, I was eager to expand my teaching repertoire beyond the Digital Design and Development Diploma program to include additional coding and design courses. I was particularly interested in contributing to the web and mobile courses within the New Media and Web Development programs. Having taught in the New Media program once, I saw a potential career path that could allow me to grow across various departments.
However, circumstances shifted, and my teaching contract ended. I then transitioned to a role at WestJet, which I embraced as an opportunity to deepen my skills in the development field. This career move has been highly rewarding, allowing me to gain practical experience and connect with new professionals in the industry.
Looking ahead, I aim to become a senior software developer within the next five years. This role will enable me to mentor and train junior developers, leveraging my teaching background to create effective training materials. Additionally, I have been creating mini YouTube tutorials, which not only help others learn globally but also refine my ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
This combination of hands-on development experience and teaching expertise will be instrumental as I advance in my career and take on new challenges in the field.
